Lift-and-Slide Door
A sliding sash with triple glazing easily weighs as much as three adults. You still move it with one hand. The handle lifts it five millimetres off the seal and onto its rollers. Then it runs on the track and brakes by itself at the end.
Drag to rotate the view · drag the sash to slide it · after a click the mouse wheel zooms
The sash still rests on the seal. Turn the handle down first, then it runs.
The 3D model needs WebGL, which is not available in this browser. The instruments and the calculation still work.

How the Model Calculates
- Weight: Glass at 2.5 kg per m² and millimetre of glass thickness. For the sash profile the model assumes 4.5 kg per metre.
- Push force: F = m·g·(f/r + μ) + FD with a rolling-resistance lever f = 0.05 mm, roller radius r = 15 mm, bearing friction μ = 0.002 and a flat 5 N of seal friction. All four values are assumptions. Track, roller material and dirt change them noticeably.
- Lift: The first 30° of handle travel pull the hooks out of the keepers. Up to 160° the gearbox lifts the sash. After that the lever sits at dead centre and holds by itself. The handle force follows from the slope of this curve, an efficiency of 0.7 and an effective lever of 22 cm.
- Damper: Over the last 12 cm a speed-dependent force brakes the sash, and a small spring pulls it into the end. The brake is sized for the hardware weight class. If the sash is heavier, it arrives faster.
- Ug: simplified after EN 673 with argon, two low-emissivity coatings (ε = 0.03) and no edge seal. A guide value, not a proof.
- The values come from this model. For planning and installation, the figures of the hardware and profile manufacturer apply.
